Massanera may be the best place we have ever stayed. Our host Carlo is one of a kind. At the age of 80 he is still working the farm every day but he finds a lot of time to interact with his guests. We stayed 8 nights and Carlo treated us two nights to dinners with him and other guests at Massanera. Carlos speaks at least four languages so the guests from various places can interact. Marco, who works for Carlo, did a great job cooking the dinners. We all sat at a long table, eating mostly foods grown on his farm - wild pig, deer, wine, olive oil, prociutto, limoncello, and more I have probably forgotten. Massanera wine is very good. A feast! Massanera property is stunningly beautiful with long range views of rolling hills planted with grapes, olives, and lemons and mountains behind. Everything is lush green in April. We enjoyed the villa environment due to the privacy we received from the spacious villas on the land. The pool was a big hit even for the older children, and was a very calm place to sit down and relax. The owner of the villas was very kind and friendly, and invited us and the other guests to a nice seafood dinner on the last day.
